Supplemental Security Income
Oklahoma Supplemental Security Income Lawyer
Experienced Legal Counsel for All SSI Matters
Like Social Security Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a government-funded program designed to assist individuals who are unable to work due to a disability. Unlike SSD however, SSI is not dependent on your work credits or income; in fact, SSI benefits are available to those who fall below a certain income level and who, generally speaking, have never been able to work due to their condition.
The Oklahoma SSI lawyer at Todd Disability Law is vastly experienced in all types of SSD and SSI matters. Ms. Todd brings nearly a decade of practice to our firm. She can help you determine if you are eligible for SSI, apply for benefits, or appeal a denied SSI claim.

SSI Eligibility: Do You Qualify for Benefits?
In order to be eligible for SSI benefits, you must meet certain requirements. These requirements include:
- You are blind or disabled (regardless of age), and;
- You have limited income and resources, and;
- You are a citizen of the United States, a national of the U.S., or an alien in a certain category
Note that you may need to meet stricter requirements, particularly regarding your individual and household income (if married).
Remember: you do not need to have earned any work credits in order to qualify for SSI benefits. These benefits are not paid via Social Security taxes but, rather, via U.S. Treasury funds. It is also important to note that SSI is not available to individuals in certain U.S. states, including Arizona, Mississippi, North Dakota, and West Virginia, as well as the Northern Mariana Islands.
Calculating Your SSI Benefits
As of 2019, individuals who qualify for SSI benefits may receive up to $771 from the federal government. Additionally, the state of Oklahoma offers a modest supplement to this amount—up to $42 for those who do not reside in a nursing home/care facility. This supplement is available if you live alone or with another person.
Applying for SSI Benefits in Oklahoma
There are several ways to apply for SSI benefits in Oklahoma. These include:
- Online at www.ssa.gov/benefits/disability
- By phone at (800) 772-1213/TTY (800) 325-0778
- In-person at your nearest Social Security office
Before applying, you will need to make sure that you have all applicable information and documents. These include your Social Security number, proof of your age, proof of your citizenship or alien status, proof of your income, proof of your resources (bank statements, life insurance policy documents, etc.), proof of your living arrangements, medical records (if applicable), and more.
We strongly recommend that you work with the knowledgeable Oklahoma SSI attorney at our firm to help ensure a smooth application process. Mistakes on your application or missing documents/information can jeopardize your ability to recover crucial SSI benefits.
